The global village of mass media has facilitated this ease to overlook smaller differences that exist in cultures across the globe. Flashy images of war, global business and entertainment gloss over the particularities that define and hold cultures together, leading us, the media consumers, to believe that we can have access to anything, at anytime, from anywhere, without leaving the comfort of our own social perimeters. We neglect however, to honor the small everyday nuances that still take place in today’s global framework; an assumption is made about accepted norms.
Across the globe latitudes and longitudes intercross and create pinpoint destinations, yet destinations are not defined by concrete coordinates. They are instead defined by the intercrossing of culture, ideas, symbols and people. As they cross, they share and evolve; ever-changing and constantly dancing to a global rhythm. Intercrossings.net is a collection of personal travel narratives analyzing and describing these smaller, everyday cultural norms and their intercrossing.
These travel narratives are about life, experience and sharing across cultures. It is through talking to people, feeling one’s surroundings and opening our eyes to the particularities of everyday life in different cultures that we can assesses these norms. The interchange, or intercrossing, between place and people is therefore necessary for genuine communication.
The travel narratives featured on intercrossings.net are a personal attempt to better understand and truly see in places that are unknown. Some are mere descriptions of street corners and others describe personal feelings and revelation. In the end, all of the narratives share one common goal: dive into new cities, countries, and cultures with eyes open in an attempt to learn and understand.

A traveler and writer, half American and half Swedish, Anna grew up in a household defined by two cultures and two languages. This inevitably inspired her interest in experiencing new places. Through her writing she hopes to share these experiences of traveling, living and being in new places in order to promote better cultural understanding, create new perspectives and allow the reader to simply enjoy a moment in a different place.
Although English remains her language of choice for writing, Anna also speaks French and Swedish. “Language is about communication and sharing. The better we understand someone in their native language the more we learn about them and their culture.” Wherever her travels take her, be they close to home or far away, she is on a constant quest for this cultural understanding and experience.
With a passion for images and graphic arts, it is no surprise that Mikael has turned his focus to photography. A native of France, but currently on the move around the globe, his camera is never left behind. Through his pictures he allows the viewer to take part in his adventures; one can almost feel, smell and hear the elements that peak his interest while traveling.
With an academic background in physical geography, he also has a strong fascination with the environment and its natural forms, evident in his photography.
Mikael has photographed in several countries including France, USA, Guadeloupe, Dominica and Canada.
