United States: Travel and discovery
The BlueMoonPictures project is an online exposition of 75 photos. 75 photos which correspond with 75 days spent in the USA. Not the typical “tourist” photos, but an exposition of industrial forms, undiscovered localities and diverse places.
From the east coast, in the cities of New York and Philadelphia, to the west coast, and Seattle, Tacoma and Portland, here is the opportunity to let oneself be consumed by the remarkable diversity of the landscape. The photos span from the urban terrain of the large cities, shaped by concrete, glass and steel, to the natural geography of the vast volcanoes in the Cascade Range, the Columbia River, the long stretches of sand on the Pacific Ocean, and the smaller villages by its side: Seaside, Depoe Bay, Newport…
The architectural details of New-York, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Times Square, Hudson River, the United Nations, and the subway station at Canal Street. This aesthetic trip continues in Washington Square District of Philadelphia, where the cemeteries, churches and an ever-present history create the scene. We cross to the other side of the continent, to Portland and Seattle, where other elements combine to shape American society: the starred flag, huge cars and wooden houses. The varied terrain of western North America offers Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, the Columbia River, Mount Rainier and the sand dunes of the Oregon Coast. Yet it also offers a more civilized aspect, which lives side by side with the extraordinary and wild nature: The Oregon Coast Aquarium, the Oregon Holocaust memorial, Portland Farmers’ Market, Seattle’s Pike Place Market and all the other local highlights that can be experienced.
The selection of photographs is at times artistic and at times a mere simple view on everyday life, but it remains constantly a selection of pure photography. The photographs allow the explorer of this project to feel the temperature of the other side of the planet, to see on a small scale an everyday reality which is far from the images diffused on television, far from the chaos sometimes represented by the individuals of national politics, far from enterprises of war and far from the excess of capitalism. This website and its photographs, the experience itself, allows you to see another side of America. The face of America that our eyes, always impassioned by image, appreciated, and which inspired us to create this site in order to share them.
